Dr. Dickey named Medem editor
Nancy Dickey, MD, past president of the American Medical Association, has joined Medem as its editor in chief.
Medem Chair H. Dunbar Hoskins Jr., MD, said Dr. Dickey had been hired for the medical society-owned Web site because she brings "knowledge at the highest level of medicine" through her experience as a family physician in College Station, Texas, and her term as AMA president, ending in June 1999.
Dr. Dickey's role includes developing and implementing strategy for selecting Medem's clinical content. She also will hold a seat on the company's editorial board.
Medem was formed last fall. Owners are the AMA; the American Academy of Pediatrics; the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology; the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists; the American Academy of Ophthalmology; the American Psychiatric Assn.; and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. The American Assn. of Neurological Surgeons became the eighth society to affiliate with San Francisco-based Medem, which plans to offer physician services and consumer health information. The site plans to roll out services over the next few months.
