LCME to hold hearing on two proposed accreditation standards
Chicago -- The Liaison Committee on Medical Education will hold a public hearing June 10 to consider changes in accreditation standards.
One proposed standard would require medical schools to have adequate financial resources. Financial support should come from income from tuition, endowments, earnings by the faculty, parent university, annual gifts, grants from organizations and individuals and government appropriations, the LCME said.
The second proposal would expand LCME's existing ban on discrimination by adding that medical schools must not discriminate on gender or sexual orientation.
The hearing starts at 4:30 p.m. at the Chicago Hilton Hotel, 720 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago. Written comments can be mailed to the LCME/AMA, 515 N. State St., Chicago, IL 60610. The complete text of the proposed standards can be found on the LCME Web site (http://www.lcme.org/).
