This Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Web site includes information dealing with the administrative simplification provisions of HIPAA of 1996. This site contains general information about the administrative simplification portion of the HIPAA law, an explanation of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) process, an update on when HIPAA standards may be implemented, and educational information.
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
The CMS Web site offers numerous resources on transactions and code sets, Version 5010 of the standard transactions, and ICD-10. Resources include educational materials, presentations from national calls, frequently asked questions, information on how to file a complaint, and the ability to sign up for listserv notifications.
Office for Civil Rights (OCR)
The OCR Web site provides resources on the privacy and security requirements under HIPAA. Information includes educational materials, frequently asked questions, and information on how to file a complaint.
National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS)
This is the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics Web site. NCVHS is the Advisory Body to HHS. Information on membership, how to contact the committee, announcements and agendas for past and future public hearings is also available.

Accredited Standards Committee X12 (ASC X12)
The ASC X12 Web site provides information on its work developing the HIPAA adopted standards for health care claims, eligibility, remittance advice, claims status, and the other named standard transactions. ASC X12 is a standards development organization.
Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE)
The CORE Web site provides information on their work developing operating rules, which are named in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) for adoption with each HIPAA standard transaction. CORE is the entity designated by HHS to develop and maintain operating rules.
Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI)
This is the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange Web site. This site includes among other things, information on EDI in the health care industry, lists of conferences, implementation information and the availability of resources for standard transactions. WEDI is named in law as being an advisor to HHS.
National Uniform Claim Committee (NUCC)
This links to the Web site for the NUCC, that is chaired by the American Medical Association. The NUCC was formally named in the administrative simplification section of the HIPAA of 1996 as one of the organizations to be consulted by the American National Standards Institute's accredited Standard Designating Organizations and the Secretary of HHS as they develop, adopt, or modify national standards for health care transactions. As such, the NUCC is intended to have an authoritative voice regarding national standard content and data definitions for non-institutional health care claims in the United States. The NUCC maintains the 1500 paper claim form and any changes to it.
National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP)
The NCPDP Web site contains information about its work developing the pharmacy-related HIPAA named transactions, which are also used for e-prescribing. NCPDP is a standards development organization.
