Overview
The Third National Congress on Health System Readiness seeks to review the current state of the research and science related to recent national and international disasters and public health emergencies in order to establish the essential elements of a comprehensive disaster health system.
Audience
Participants of the Third National Congress include government and community leaders, in addition to stakeholders representing the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, public health, allied health, emergency medical services, and emergency management.
Congress Registration
Registration desk: All participants are required to check-in prior to attending the Third National Congress at the Registration Desk, located in the Foyer. Staff will be available at the Registration Desk to check-in and assist Congress participants the following days and times:
- Monday, Nov. 30th 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 1st 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 2nd 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Thursday, Dec. 3rd 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Registration badge: Your registration badge is required to enter all Third National Congress sessions.
Congress Meals
Continental breakfast: A continental breakfast will be available for participants each morning of the Third National Congress:
- Tuesday, Dec. 1st 7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. - Marriott Salon III
- Wednesday, Dec. 2nd 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. - Exhibit Hall A
- Thursday, Dec. 3rd 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. - Exhibit Hall A
Lunch: Participants will be provided a box lunch on Tuesday, Dec. 1st and Thursday, Dec. 3rd. Tickets for the box lunch can be found behind participants’ name badge. Those requesting vegetarian or Kosher meals will have meal tickets with special designation to present to service staff. Congress participants will be expected to have lunch on own on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd. A variety of options for meals are available both within and nearby the hotel.
Refreshment Break: An afternoon refreshment break will be offered to participants each afternoon of the Third National Congress.

All sessions of the Third National Congress on Health System Readiness take place at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.

Exhibit Hall
Participants are invited to visit the HHS Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise (PHEMCE) Stakeholders Workshop 2009 Exhibitor Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 2 and Thursday, Dec. 3 in Exhibit Hall A. A variety of organizations of interest will be presented. Please note that the continental breakfast on these days will take place in Exhibit Hall A, in addition to the Joint Reception the evening of Wednesday, Dec. 2.
Congress Joint Sessions
The Third National Congress will meet jointly with the HHS Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise Stakeholders Workshop 2009 on the mornings of Wednesday, Dec. 2nd (from 9 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.) and Thursday, Dec. 3rd (from 9 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.). Joint sessions are indicated accordingly on both the Agenda at a Glance and the Detailed Agenda.
Congress Reception
All Congress participants are invited to a joint networking reception with the HHS Public Health Emergency Medical Countermeasures Enterprise Stakeholders Workshop 2009 in Exhibit Hall A on Wednesday, December 2nd from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres and non-alcoholic beverages will be available. Alcoholic beverages for purchase will be available.
A "Green" Congress
In efforts to reduce the waste generated by the Third National Congress, session handouts will be minimal. As such, several pages of the agenda book are designated for note taking. All session slide sets will be provided online on the Third National Congress Web site after the Congress for participants to print and/or save sessions of interest.
Evaluation: The Third National Congress evaluation will be disseminated electronically to all participants following the close of the Congress. Participants are strongly encouraged to provide feedback for the planning of future Congresses.
