"Medicare Preventive Services"

With the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), physicians now have more opportunities to ensure their Medicare patients receive preventive services, particularly after the initial “Welcome to Medicare” visit or the initial preventive physical examination (IPPE) is completed.

The ACA waives the deductible and coinsurance for selected preventive services. For physicians and patients, this means that the patient’s deductible and coinsurance will be paid by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Thus, physicians can offer preventive services at more affordable cost to the patient and, in doing so, enhance the physician-patient relationship.

The American Medical Association (AMA) created the Medicare Preventive Services brochure to outline preventive care recommendations and how they are covered by the new Medicare benefit. The brochure lists all Medicare preventive services with cost-sharing waived, plus the related CPT® code.

Additionally, the AMA is pleased to offer the preventive service CPT® code pocket guide .  It highlights optimal vaccine and preventive services in specific age categories for which coinsurance/deductibles are waived according to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This guide was designed to help you easily reference information regarding U.S. Preventive Service Task Force graded recommendations for categories of preventive services and vaccines by age group with corresponding CPT and Medicare (HCPCS) codes.

Caregiver Self-Assessment Questionnaire (resource for your patients)

Caregivers are often so concerned with caring for their relative’s needs that they lose sight of their own wellbeing. The “Caregiver Health Self-assessment Questionnaire (Spanish version)” will help caregivers analyze their own behavior and health risks and, with their physician's help, make decisions that will benefit both the caregiver and the patient. The “Caregiver Self-assessment Questionnaire” will enable physicians to identify and provide preventive services to an at-risk but hidden population and improve communication and enhance the physician-family caregiver health partnership.
