Business Associate Agreement

From time to time, the American Medical Association, through its employees and contractors, functions as a "business associate" under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996. This occurs when the AMA accesses the protected health information (PHI) and/or electronic protected health information (ePHI) of AMA members’ patients, in conjunction with interactions with private and government payers. The privacy and security of the PHI/ePHI shared by members with the AMA, as these members’ business associate, is secured through the attached business associate agreement.

By sending us PHI (which we request be faxed to our secure fax service), you agree on behalf of the physician practice to enter into this business associate agreement  with the AMA.
