Measure Analytics and Economic Evaluation
The AMA-convened Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement® (PCPI®) is broadening its ability to use data and analytics for prioritizing measure topic selection and measure development and maintenance. PCPI needs ongoing access to timely health care utilization and costs data to identify gaps in care and variation in utilization and costs, to track and report measure performance and to better understand the costs of measure implementation. Improved data access and analytics will assist the PCPI with the following:
- Inform measure development on topic selection and measure maintenance on gaps in care and variation in care
- Inform measure development on measure specifications, including ICD-9, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) and other code sets
- Inform measure evaluation on tracking performance and measuring impacts on costs and outcomes
- Provide comprehensive coverage of clinical conditions, physician specialty and service settings to inform PCPI membership on measurement priorities
- Provide data and corresponding analytic results in short turnaround to meet time-sensitive needs during all steps of the measure development process
- Capture representative populations and clinical conditions to inform development of next-generation measures (including measures for multiple conditions, longitudinal measures and measures for Accountable Care Organizations [ACOs] and other multiple provider health care delivery structures)
