About Infectious Diseases

Infectious diseases represent a huge concern both on an individual case basis and from a public health perspective. The AMA helps you stay informed and know the facts about common and emerging infectious diseases in order to better recognize, manage and immunize against them.

Through extensive reports, fact sheets, toolkits and links to the latest research, the AMA keeps you up to date on a variety of illnesses, including tuberculosis, influenza, viral hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, bloodborne and foodborne pathogens, SARS, allergies, meningitis and many others. Each topical page also includes tips on how to talk with patients about these illnesses and how to prevent them.

Given that many of these diseases are vaccine-preventable, the AMA also provides news and updates about vaccines, antibiotics and antimicrobials, plus immunization resources and the latest information on infectious diseases from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
