To date, WorldScopes has distributed nearly 6,500 stethoscopes — worth an estimated $100,000 — to clinics and hospitals from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

Recipients of stethoscopes from the WorldScopes program share their stories of the effect of having a stethoscope. To share your story, e-mail WorldScopes@ama-assn.org.

Zimbabwe

The WorldScopes program recently heard from one of its donors. Dr. Ali Singh is a physician-volunteer with the JF Kapnek Trust, a group that focuses on improving health care in the country of Zimbabwe, particularly through work in pediatric AIDS care.

He writes: "I just wanted to get back to you and let you know how wonderful the stethoscopes the AMA had donated were. We distributed them to the medical students at the University of Zimbabwe and I am sure for most of them it will be the only stethoscope they will use during their careers. They were absolutely thrilled to receive them. Thank you so much for your donation last year. Please keep us in mind if more stethoscopes become available."

Your donations continue to help physicians caring around the world for the sick and vunerable.
