AMA Applauds FDA for Banning Flavored Cigarettes

“The AMA applauds the FDA for banning flavored cigarettes and taking another important step towards curbing youth smoking.
“The earlier a person begins smoking the more likely they are to become a life-long smoker, and evidence shows that young smokers are the primary users of flavored tobacco products. The AMA has long-held policy against flavored tobacco and tobacco company marketing efforts that target children and young adults.
“Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., and we commend the FDA for continuing to make smoking cessation a top priority.”
