Chair of the Board of Trustees, American Medical Association
"The American Medical Association applauds Secretary Burwell and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for their new initiative to support practice transformation.
"The Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative will achieve a number of important goals. It will foster collaboration among a broad community of practices of various sizes, including collaboration between primary care physicians and specialists. It will also develop a network for sharing information among medical societies as well as multi-stakeholder regional collaboratives to support practice transformation.
"The AMA has been urging the Administration to assist physician practices in adopting new payment and delivery models and we're pleased that they have created a program that supports physician leadership.
"We strongly believe that practice transformation can lead to improvements in the quality of care for patients, control health care costs and enhance practice sustainability as physicians embrace innovative new models.
"The initiative announced today aligns with the AMA's Physician Satisfaction and Practice Sustainability strategic focus area, which aims to facilitate and improve medical practice so physicians can focus on their patients. By identifying and supporting current and emerging payment and care delivery models that work best for physicians across a variety of practice settings, the AMA is playing a vital role in helping physicians provide high quality care and achieve professional satisfaction."
