Medical schools changing to meet future needs

As a cosponsor of the New Horizons in Medical Education conference and the Innovative Strategies for Transforming the Education of Physicians initiative, the AMA is interested in the ways in which medical schools are changing to meet current and future health care needs.

Diversity among med school faculty up over last four decades

The gender and racial/ethnic diversity of medical school faculty continues to increase, according to a new study, but "lower retention rates, lower promotion rates, and longer times to promotion for women faculty and non-white faculty" may jeopardize these gains.

The Changing Demographics of Full-time U.S. Medical School Faculty, 1966-2009, from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), also finds that diversity is less evident among senior faculty versus newly appointed faculty.
