The Challenge of the H1N1 Vaccine Supply

General Information

This season, H1N1 vaccines are being made to protect against the H1N1 influenza virus. There are two kinds of H1N1 vaccines being produced: a H1N1 "flu shot" that is given with a needle, usually in the arm; and the H1N1 nasal spray flu vaccine given via a nasal sprayer. The same manufacturers who produce seasonal flu vaccines are producing H1N1 vaccines for use in the United States and the vaccines are being made in the same way that the seasonal vaccines are made.

Vaccination Pre-registration

In anticipation of the availability of the H1N1 influenza (formerly known as swine flu) vaccine, a pre-registration process has been established that will allow physicians and health care providers who are authorized to administer vaccinations to pre-register for receipt of the H1N1 vaccine.
