Frequently Asked Questions

General

Are physicians required to use ePrescribing?
No, not at this time. But there are incentives to do so. And, starting in 2012, CMS will reduce payments to providers who do not prescribe electronically.

Is ePrescribing faster than paper-based prescribing?
While practices that manage a lot of renewal requests typically realize time savings with ePrescribing, generating new prescriptions usually takes a few more seconds. But keep in mind that ePrescribing accomplishes much more than traditional prescribing. For example, it performs DUR, formulary coverage and benefit checks. And when drug alerts are generated, it automatically presents alternatives.

What will my patients think about ePrescribing?
Patients tend to like the convenience of ePrescribing. Prescriptions can be "queued up" for dispensing even before they leave the physician's office, eliminating the need to drop off the prescription at the pharmacy. Hassles due to illegible prescriptions, or the surprise at pickup time of costly non-formulary prescriptions, are avoided.WW
