What is ePrescribing?

Planning and Preparation

ePrescribing uses networked computer technologies to automate your prescribing processes. You simply sign on to a system, access patient information and prescribe an appropriate medication. The prescription can be sent immediately to the pharmacy. Along the way, the system offers instant access to patient medication history, formulary coverage and decision support, helping you make the best possible medication choice for your patient.

There's never been a better time to implement an ePrescribing system. Medicare is now offering a financial incentive to prescribers who do so. And more and more forms of financial assistance and support are becoming available to help make the change possible.

ePrescribing is starting to catch on with an estimated 100 million prescriptions transmitted electronically this year by more than 74,000 prescribers. ePrescribing is not yet required but the ranks of ePrescribers are likely to increase rapidly over the coming years.
