Health Literacy Kit

The Health literacy and patient safety: Help patients understand educational kit is the AMA Foundation's primary tool for informing physicians, health care professionals and patient advocates about health literacy.

The health literacy kit includes:

• an instructional video on DVD and CD-ROM (also available on VHS*)
• an in-depth manual for clinicians (PDF, 1MB)
• Continuing Medical Education credit (see below)
• additional resources for education and involvement

This 2007 version of the health literacy kit is updated from the previous version in that:

• the instructional video is now on DVD and CD-ROM formats, rather than VHS and CD-ROM.
• the manual for clinicians (PDF, 1MB) contains updated health literacy research data.
• it includes an extra packet of tear-off pads for the patient reception area display (for a total of two pads).
• the packaging has a slimmer and sleeker look.

The kit is designed as a self-study CME activity for physicians. Physicians may earn CME by watching the instructional video reading the manual for clinicians (PDF, 1MB), completing the case discussions and answering the CME questionnaire. The case discussions, the CME questionnaire and the CME answer sheet are all provided at the back of the manual for clinicians. After recording your answers on the CME answer sheet, please return the form via mail or fax to:

A certificate documenting your participation in the CME activity will be forwarded to you upon the successful achievement of a score of 70%. Non-physicians may receive a certificate of participation for completing this activity.

The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Medical Association designates this educational activity for a maximum of 2.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
