Disease management

Employers, health insurers, the Federal government and others are looking at Disease Management (DM) as a means of harnessing health care costs through the control and prevention of chronic diseases.  The types and intensity of DM services can vary and may either be an invaluable tool for patients and physicians or a major obstacle to receiving and providing quality health care.

The AMA's Private Sector Advocacy unit has recently updated its DM educational documents to assist you, the physician, with your interactions in today's DM industry.

  • Disease Management and Chronic Diseases indicates members-only content provides you with a basic overview of the DM industry. (PDF, 46KB, requires Adobe® Reader®)
  • Demystifying Disease Management: What physicians need to know for their patients and their practices indicates members-only content focuses on the impact DM may have on your practice and offers you some interactive strategies. (PDF, 113KB)
