Awards


The AMA Foundation takes great pride in recognizing the extraordinary efforts of medical students, residents and fellows, physicians, and health care organizations that go “beyond the call of duty” to provide patient care, train future physicians, and advance the field of medicine.

Excellence in Medicine Awards
Presented in association with the Pfizer Medical Humanities Initiative, the AMA Foundation Excellence in Medicine Awards bring together the Pride in the Profession Awards, the Dr. Nathan Davis International Award in Medicine, the Jack B. McConnell, MD Award for Excellence in Volunteerism and the Leadership Awards. The awards are presented annually at the Excellence in Medicine Awards banquet, preceding the AMA National Advocacy Conference.


The McGovern Health Education Award
The AMA Foundation Health Education Award is presented in association with the AMA House of Delegates and was established to encourage and to recognize the professional or public health education activities of practicing physicians. Special consideration will be given to those physicians working in the areas of drug and alcohol abuse. This award consists of a $3,500 stipend and an appropriate certificate. The award is supported by a grant from the John P. McGovern Foundation. It is presented at the AMA House of Delegates Interim Meeting.

Isaac Hays, MD, and John Bell, MD, Award for Leadership in Medical Ethics and Professionalism
This award was established by the AMA Foundation and AMA Board of Trustees in 1997 to promote and underscore the AMA's continuing dedication to the principles of medical ethics and the highest standards of medical practice. The award is named for co-writers of the original Code of Ethics for the American Medical Association. It consists of a plaque and monetary award of $2,500. It is presented at the AMA House of Delegates Interim Meeting

The Jordan Fieldman, MD Award
The Jordan Fieldman, MD, Resident and Fellow Award, presented in association with the AMA Foundation, will be awarded annually to a resident or fellow member of the AMA who has shown an interest in public health advocacy issues. He or she must be a first-time delegate to the AMA-RFS and from a state or district that does not have the funds to support resident/fellow travel to AMA-RFS meetings. The award money will cover resident travel to both the Annual and Interim meetings during the year of the award and necessary expenses while attending these meetings.
