Choosing a Medical Specialty

Since 1994, the AMA-MSS has maintained a bibliography of current sources for information on the medical and surgical specialties for medical students preparing to enter the residency selection process.  The purpose of this online publication is to direct students to the large number of resources that are already available to help them make informed career choices.

The 2008 online edition of "Choosing a Medical Specialty" is arranged into the following sections:

  • General information useful in the overall selection of a specialty (includes books, journals, and electronic resources for career planning)
  • Socioeconomic information to facilitate informed decision making in the current practice environment
  • Specialty-specific information, including links to the Web pages of the medical specialties represented in the AMA House of Delegates
  • Additional Web sites

We appreciate the importance of career planning and hope that this online publication will be a valuable resource as you prepare for the next step in your medical training!
