Awards, grants and programs


The AMA-RFS and AMA Foundation offers grants to help fund projects and activities that better our communities, promote leadership development and reinforce AMA policy.

Discovery Health "Medicine and the Media" Elective Rotation (PDF, 156KB)
An exclusive four to six week elective rotation for AMA medical student and resident members.  During the rotation, one AMA medical student and one AMA resident will each work to develop a medical education program that will air on the Discovery Health Channel.  This exciting opportunity gives the student and resident hands-on experience in the translation of rigorous scientific data into an entertaining and informational program.

RFS Policy Promotion Grant Program
Grants of up to $500 to resident and fellow physicians for projects and activities on a variety of topics that promote or reinforce AMA policy. Apply here (PDF, 25KB)

AMA Foundation Seed Grant Research Program
Grants of $1,500 to $2,500 to residents and medical students to conduct small projects in applied and clinical research.

AMA Foundation Leadership Award
Recognizes the leadership potential of 15 residents/fellows, 15 medical students, 15 young physicians and 10 international medical graduates.

Paul Ambrose Award 
The American Medical Association’s Resident and Fellow Section (AMA-RFS) invites you to submit nominations for the AMA-RFS Paul Ambrose Award for Leadership Among Resident Physicians.

Jordan Fieldman MD Award
Recognizes residents and fellows interested and active in advocacy issues.
Deadline: TBD

RFS Legislative Awareness Internship Program (PDF, 32KB)
Stipend of $1,000 available to two residents/fellows for a two-week internship in AMA's Washington, D.C., office.
Deadline: Available in 2009

Physician's Recognition Award
Residents who have completed their third year of residency are eligible.
Deadline: Open

RFS Recognition of Excellence Award
Recognizes an individual or group who has made a significant impact on the lives or image of resident/fellow physicians

AMA-WPC Physician Mentor Recognition Program
The AMA-WPC invites you to nominate a physician who has made a difference in your professional lives.

Doctors Back to School program
The AMA Doctors Back to School (DBTS) program aims to raise awareness of the need for more minority physicians and to encourage children from underrepresented minority groups to look at medicine as a career option. Through Doctors Back to School, physicians and medical students across the country visit schools and community organizations to help young minority children realize they, too, can follow the same path.

Seeking Public Office: AMPAC Political Education Programs Can Help 
The Candidate Workshop and Campaign School, held for over 20 years, provide unmatched political training for physicians and other friends of medicine who are interested in either seeking public office themselves or in working to elect other friends of medicine.
