AMA-RFS Convention Committees

The AMA-RFS has several opportunities for residents and fellows interested in being especially active at the Annual and Interim Meetings. Volunteer for a committee when you register for the meeting.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reference Committee(s)
The AMA-RFS Reference Committee (at some meetings there may be two committees) consists of a chair, four other members and an alternate. Reference committees, like those in the AMA House of Delegates, serve to:
  1. Hear testimony during open hearings from interested individuals on the items referred to the Committee;
  2. Deliberate as a group and prepare a report summarizing testimony and making recommendations to the Assembly for action; and
  3. Be available at the front table during the report’s presentation to the Assembly to respond to questions and explain the rationale behind recommendations.

Note: Reference Committee members must be available Thursday evening for an orientation meeting and all of Friday night to review and comment on draft reports.

Credentials Committee
The AMA-RFS Credentials Committee consists of a chairperson and two to eight other members. The Credentials Committee’s major responsibilities are to:

  1. Credential delegates (ensure the delegate’s eligibility to vote) on both mornings of the meeting and immediately prior to elections.
  2. Verify a quorum is present
  3. Distribute election ballots.

Note: Credentials Committee members must be available Thursday evening for orientation.

Rules Committee
Parliamentary procedure can enhance the flow of a meeting, but it can also seem to be a barrier to those who do not know how to accomplish their purpose within the structure of the rules. The Rules Committee will serve as a reference on the floor of the Assembly to assist attendees with parliamentary questions. The Rules Committee main responsibilities are:

  1. Review late and emergency resolutions and make recommendations to the RFS Assembly whether to consider them business of the Assembly.
  2. Collect and tabulate ballots for RFS elections.
  3. Count hand votes during the business meeting as requested by the Speakers

To serve on the Rules Committee, you must:

  1. Have attended at lease one AMA-RFS Assembly Meeting.
  2. Understand and be able to convey the rules, procedures and function of the RFS Assembly.
  3. Have a basic knowledge and understanding of current AMA-RFS activities and issues.

Logistics Committee
The AMA-RFS Logistics Committee consists of three to five people. The Committee's sole responsibility is to run the projection equipment on Friday and Saturday during the Assembly Business Meeting at the Annual and Interim Meetings. Applicants must be computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee aids the Speakers and Governing Council in providing an as member-friendly experience as possible for attendees of the conference.
