2008 State Delegate allocations

A new formula for proportional representation to the AMA-YPS Assembly was approved by the AMA House of Delegates (HOD) at the 2007 Interim Meeting. Beginning in 2008, state medical societies will be entitled to send at least two voting delegates to AMA-YPS Assembly meetings. There will no longer be alternate delegates.

Effective Jan. 1, 2008, AMA bylaws state that the apportionment for each state and specialty society, or federal service, will be two representatives (and no alternate representatives) for each 1,000 members of the Young Physicians Section who are members of the society as recorded by the AMA on Dec. 31 of each year.

The following chart reflects the number of young physician delegates each state medical society receives for 2008. Allocations for 2008 will be forwarded to societies in Jan. 2008. If you, a young physician under 40 years of age or within the first eight (8) years of professional practice after residency and fellowship training, have an interest in serving as a delegate, contact your state medical society to see if this is feasible. *Unified society: qualifies for one additional delegate seat under AMA Bylaws adopted at the 1997 Annual Meeting.
