CPT® Licensing

Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) was developed by the AMA over 40 years ago to provide health care professionals with a uniform language for effective communication. Through an extensive editorial process involving a community of national experts and representatives, CPT is continually reviewed, revised and updated to reflect changes in medical care. For more detail, see Initiation of CPT Process.

The AMA is committed to making CPT widely available at low cost. The AMA holds copyright in CPT and use or reprinting of CPT in any product or publication requires a license. For more information about the licenses available, see CPT License Information.

To obtain a license, fax a completed license application to CPT Intellectual Property Services at (312) 464-5131, or return it by mail at CPT Intellectual Property Services, American Medical Association, 515 North State Street, Chicago, IL 60610.

CPT is a registered trademark of the American Medical Association.
