Young at Heart Award


The AMA Young Physicians Section Young at Heart Award was implemented in 1993. Nominees for the award must be AMA members who are not eligible for Section membership whose support and guidance have strengthened the YPS. This can be through (1) organizational aid; (2) support of YPS issues in reference committees/causes and on the floor of the AMA House of Delegates; and/or (3) support of YPS leadership development, eg., promotion of YPS leaders.

Samuel P. Solish, MD, Former AMA-YPS chair; chair of the AMA Ophthalmology Section Council; delegate to the AMA-HOD from the American Academy of Ophthalmology

“Dr. Solish has been an outstanding role model for physicians interested in organized medicine.  He has been a strong promoter of young physician leadership development with the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s AMA delegation.  He is a great teacher.  He has always been a strong supporter of the AMA-YPS.  He has been a mentor and a friend.”

A Nomination form for the 2008 Award is available online. Nominations also may be sent via e-mail, or in person at the Assembly meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii in November 2007. The deadline for the 2007 award was December 31, 2006. Only individuals who are not Young Physicians Section members (over age 40) are eligible to be nominated.
