I have known Bob in a number of roles since 1997. He is a physician who is passionate about health policy, as well as the legislative and "back office" aspects of medicine. He represents the very best in medicine and would undoubtedly apply the same intensity to the YPS chairmanship as he has in his previous leadership roles.

Candidate’s statement of interest

I wish to be considered for the position of YPS Chair-elect out of a genuine interest to promote and advance our section’s role in the joint endeavors of organized medicine. I feel that I could offer a very diverse and robust organized medicine experience to the Governing Council. I also feel that I can represent the unique concerns and challenges of young physicians by tapping into my recent experiences as an administrator.

As an otolaryngologist who practices predominantly sleep medicine, I have an ongoing exposure to both the surgical and medical challenges within medical practice. As the founding member of a thriving South Carolina private practice, I have gained considerable experience while mentoring four other young physicians through the difficult transition that is so frequently seen at our stage of practice.

You can be certain that I will use my experience and enthusiasm to:

• make the voice of young physicians more prominent within the AMA House of Medicine
• Increase health policy awareness within our section
• Identify and promote YPS members to leadership positions within the AMA
