Diana E. Ramos, MD, MPH

AMA-MAC Delegate to the AMA House of Delegates
Laguna Beach, California
Specialty: Obstetrics and Gynecology

Among the leadership activities I have been involved with in addressing issues of underrepresented minority physician and patient populations in the U.S., are my involvement with the MAC as an At-Large representative and the Chair. As part of my participation in the MAC, I chaired the Hispanic Physician Outreach Initiative, collaborated in the development of resolutions focusing on minority physicians and patients, and actively participated in MAC initiatives and activities whose primary function is to:

  • Increase the number of underrepresented minority medical students and physicians.
  • Provide AMA forum for networking and grassroots advocacy on minority issues.
  • Provide advice/counsel on minority issues to the AMA Board of Trustees and Councils.

I also participated in the Commission to End Health Care Disparities, including its steering committee. As part of the Commission’s activities, I have served on the cultural competence group and the workforce diversity group.

I bring experience obtained not only from having been actively involved in the MAC but more importantly, knowledge and words of wisdom I have learned from many leaders I have had the privilege of working with as a result of my involvement in the MAC. My open mindedness, ability to listen and perseverance are among some of my leadership strengths that have been refined as a result of my interaction with these leaders.

The past four years of my involvement with the MAC has provided me the privilege of witnessing and participating in the evolution of the MAC. We went from an advisory group to a Consortium with a vote in the House of Delegates.
