Resident and Fellow Section Representative
Richmond, Virginia
Specialty: Internal Medicine - Preliminary Anesthesiology
My interest in representing the RFS on the WPC Governing Council began as a medical student when I first joined the AMA and my state society. I looked to gain experience in the issues facing organized medicine; in particular, patient advocacy for coverage, access and safety were and still are at the top of my list. I also sought women in medicine to serve as mentors and to guide me in learning to find a balance within my career and personal life. This interest led me to serving in two significant leadership positions: Medical Student Representative on the Board of my State Society and on the WPC Governing Council. During my time on the WPC, I initiated the development of the Physician Mentor Recognition Program as a way of recognizing leaders and teachers in medicine and, if elected to serve as the RFS representative, I would already have insight into and experience with the functioning of the WPC and would be able to begin right away with bringing ideas and issues to the WPC for discussion. In particular, I would like to further promote participation in the AMA and WPC among residents so that we can increase our voice, leadership and influence in organized medicine. I want to continue working with and promoting the Mentor Program to recognize those who have served as positive influences to our colleague. Finally, I would like to continue to assist the WPC in providing opportunities and learning tools for networking, life balance, and leadership.
