Curriculum vitae tools and resources


Searching for a position, whether it is your first or fourth, a shift from full-time to part-time, or a radical career change can be a complex process. Undoubtedly, your curriculum vitae (CV) can be one of the key factors in getting the position or work situation you desire.

To help you along in this process we are providing resources and tools from the AMA and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that can help you create a CV that works for you.

AMA resources:

The AMA Young Physicians Section (YPS): Preparing a CV and Other Job Search Tips

JAMACareerNet provides information on career related articles, job postings and tools for posting your CV, and links to other career resources

AMAPress Practice Management and Career Development publications
AMA Press offers a number of career development publications on topics such as job interviewing and negotiation skills.

The AAP’s Web site, www.pedjobs.org is the official employment source for the AAP. This Web site includes a number of resources on CV development and related job search tools such as preparing for a phone interview. These resources are open to physicians in all specialties and include:

  • CV Builder
    The CV Builder is available for you to use to construct a CV. Users fill in the fields that are appropriate for your education and experience to create their CV.
  • Job Portfolio
    Sample CVs, employment option checklist, and job seeking tips
  • Links to Medical Economics articles related to finding a job and CV development
  • Pedjobs Career Quarterly eNewsletter
    This newsletter features the article, “The Curriculum Vitae: Your Entrance into the Job Market”

The AAP Women in Pediatrics Web site provides additional resources for women in medicine on work/practice options including a presentation on flexible careers for young pediatricians and selected readings on part-time and reduced hours employment.
