Community planning

Experience has shown that our diverse communities find unique approaches and solutions to public health emergency planning. Our aim is to showcase these local/community level approaches that exemplify innovative solutions to pandemic influenza preparedness planning that reach across and beyond traditional health care systems.   We would also like to highlight how communities are tackling and overcoming barriers and challenges to pandemic influenza planning, specifically in the areas of:

  • medical surge capacity
  • community mitigation strategies
  • models of emergency healthcare delivery
  • alternative care sites
  • maintaining critical community infrastructure
  • legal and regulatory policy
  • workforce education and safety
  • community education/communication-especially vulnerable populations
  • role of the business community/private sector

We asked communities to describe their experiences with pandemic influenza preparedness planning.  We were looking for innovative and instructive stories that contained links between the health care delivery system and public health (state and local)  within the context of the community.

These are the community pan flu preparedness plans submitted for the 2nd National Congress; use them as a reference to adapt and integrate relevant elements into your own local planning processes.  The following PDF files require Adobe® Reader®.
