Each state and the District of Columbia maintains a Web site dedicated to the state government agency tasked with regulating the business of insurance. Each agency is responsible for monitoring the health insurance industry and enforcing applicable laws. As part of its monitoring and enforcement functions, each agency maintains a process by which physicians and patients can file complaints against health plans. The AMA has devised the following tools to help physician practices better understand the process of filing a formal complaint with a state insurance regulatory agency.
Links to each state insurance regulatory Web site can be accessed at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners Web site. (This link will take you off the AMA Web site. The AMA is not responsible for the content of other Web sites.)
