About the Committee

The MSS Committee on Public Health was established in 2005 to organize and establish the MSS as a leader in public health and more actively involve the MSS membership in public health initiatives.  The Committee is charged with the following objectives:

  • Review current public health issues in the literature.
  • Educate the MSS on public health topics, particularly on how public health projects can be implemented at MSS members’ respective institutions.
  • Organize and establish the MSS as a leader in public health.
  • More actively involve the MSS membership in public health initiatives.

Educational Resources
The Committee on Public Health has created a guide to public health training opportunities tailored for medical students. It’s our hope that you use this as a starting point for your involvement with medicine, leadership, and public health.

The Committee on Public Health also compiled a list (PDF, 123KB) of databases, books, films, and internet resources, which can provide your AMA-MSS chapter with information about public health topics including the following: general public health overview, the uninsured, health disparities and cultural competency, HIV/AIDS, health and human rights, and environmental health and population growth.
