Progam goals and objectives


Goal: To identify, develop, and disseminate best practices in health care for the geriatric population

Objectives: The Aging and Community Health program accomplishes its goals through the following:

Education

  • that supports a comprehensive approach to care of the geriatric patient
  • that supports the physician's role in the care of the geriatric patient
  • that improves physician, patient, and caregiver communication
  • that provides technical assistance, materials, and curricula for training physicians to be able to train others in the identified best practices

Applied Research

  • identifying current trends and implications for policy and practice
  • anticipating future needs of the aging population

Collaborations

  • facilitate implementation of best practices
  • communication/dissemination of best practice information
  • network within the Federation of state and specialty medical societies and with external health care organizations

Resources

  • provide technical assistance to physicians, other areas of the AMA, external health care organizations and the public
