The following guidelines have been developed for somatotropin analogs:

The som- prefix is used for growth hormone derivatives, eg:

• somatropin for human growth hormone
• somatrem for methionyl human growth hormone

The som- prefix and the -bove suffix are required for bovine somatotropin derivates, eg:

• somidobove
• sometribove
• somagrebove

The som- prefix and the -por suffix are required for porcine somatotropin derivatives, eg:

• somalapor
• somenopor
• sometripor
• somfasepor
