National Influenza Vaccine Summit Consumer Working Group

Welcome to the Home Page of the Consumer Working Group of the National Influenza Vaccine Summit, co-sponsored by the AMA and the CDC. The Summit compromises many stakeholders interested in influenza prevention and meets annually to address important issues in influenza immunization.

Essence Magazine Public Service Advertsiement
The California Department of Health Services (DHS) Immunization Branch will be running an advertisement that they created, along with the National Medical Association, in Essence magazine.  This advertisement encourages seeking the influenza vaccine in the fall and will appear for the month of November.

Although the CA CHS advertisement will only run in a regional edition of Essence, this edition does include many other states (Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Washington DC, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Washington State). 

The CA DHS uses the Essence advertisement as the centerpiece for outreach in the community at the local health department level. Support materials include emery boards for distribution with an "As seen in Essence" counter card model of the advertisement going to nail and hair salons in the community.
