10 Ways to Be Involved in WIM Month

- Join the AMA. All women who are AMA members are also WPC members. Male physicians may opt in for WPC membership by contacting the AMA at (312) 464-5678 or by sending us an email.
- Work with your medical society or hospital to organize a WIM Month outreach/networking event.
- Get together with your colleagues and work on strengthening your local support network.
- Volunteer to speak to local medical students or resident physicians about getting involved in organized medicine.
- Represent your medical society or hospital at a health fair or town meeting to promote health awareness.
- Write an article for your medical society’s September journal on a timely professional or women’s health issue.
- If you are a medical student, resident, or young physician, check out the AMA Member Groups Web site for ways to make your voice heard.
- Be a mentor to a newer colleague by offering encouragement and showing them how things really work.
- Get your organization or medical society to sponsor a youth mentoring program.
- Log on to the Minority Affairs Consortium Web site and see how you can be involved in the MAC/s Doctors Back To School program. This program is designed to encourage minority children to become physicians.
- Take a day off, do something for yourself…and get some rest!
