The American Medical Association has started a national educational effort it hopes will encourage physicians and representatives of the pharmaceutical, device and medical equipment industries to adhere to ethical guidelines regarding promotional gifts to physicians from industry.
The initiative targets physicians, physicians in training and sales representatives, asking them to comply with guidelines created by the AMA’s Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs (CEJA).
Joining the AMA as partners in the initiative are more than 30 other physician and health care organizations and corporations, which have come together to form the Working Group on the Communication of Ethical Guidelines for Gifts to Physicians from Industry.
