A new formula for proportional representation to the AMA-YPS Assembly was approved by the AMA House of Delegates (HOD) at the 2007 Interim Meeting. Beginning in 2008, national medical specialty societies who have been granted representation in the HOD will be entitled to send at least two voting delegates to AMA-YPS Assembly meetings. There will no longer be alternate delegates.
Effective Jan. 1, 2008, AMA bylaws state that the apportionment for each state and specialty society, or federal service, will be two representatives (and no alternate representatives) for each 1,000 members of the Young Physicians Section who are members of the society as recorded by the AMA on Dec. 31 of each year.
Each specialty society listed below is entitled to at least two delegates to the AMA-YPS. If you, a young physician under 40 years of age or within the first eight (8) years of professional practice after residency and fellowship training, have an interest in serving as a delegate to the AMA-YPS, contact your specialty society to see if this is feasible. If you need to know how to contact your society, e-mail the AMA-YPS or view our list of staff liaisons for national medical specialty societies.
