The National Advisory Council on Violence and Abuse (NACVA) provides guidance to the American Medical Association on healthcare issues related to all forms of violence and abuse. The Council  works on behalf of the AMA and member organizations to identify, develop and promote practices and policies that:

  • Enhance physicians’ capacities to recognize and identify the presentations and consequences of violence and abuse in all theirforms.
  • Enable physicians to respond appropriately when these issues are identified.
  • Educate the medical community to play appropriate roles in the prevention of violence and abuse.
  • Encourage other health care organizations to identify and work toward similar goals.
  • Provide leadership, advocacy, support, and guidance to other organizations that share our goals.
