The Clinical Research Roundtable has a dedicated Web site with summaries of Clinical Research Roundtable meetings, membership list, and additional information on Roundtable activities.
Clinical Research Roundtable established: The Institute of Medicine and the Commission on Life Sciences, of the National Academies, convened a national Clinical Research Roundtable in 2000 to focus attention on the future of clinical research. Citing a "clinical bottleneck," experts outlined the need for clinical investigators to convert research discoveries into "cures, therapies, preventions, interventions, and other strategies that benefit the public health." The American Medical Association (AMA), the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine released the final report of the Clinical Research Summit on Nov. 15, 1999, at a media event at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC. The report identifies 9 core problems with clinical research, and challenges the medical community to foster a greater sense of collaboration and promote workforce career development across the spectrum of the health professions. Roundtable participants will also be asked to help strengthen the oversight framework for clinical research.The Clinical Research Summit project, chaired by William H. Danforth, MD, Chancellor Emeritus, Washington University of St. Louis, was convened by the AMA, AAMC, and Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and supported by the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, the Commonwealth Fund, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the Merck Company Foundation, The Pew Charitable Trusts, and the Ethics and Leadership Fund at Wake Forest University.
