Sponsor's narrative statement

James is a fantastic physician, educator, and leader in our community. He is a faculty member in the family medicine residency program in Tupelo, MS. He has been a role model to more than thirty family practice physicians that have trained here.

He has been a delegate to the Mississippi State Medical Association from our district for the last two years. During his service, he has successfully introduced a resolution to reduce board exam fees for physicians entering practice, seeing the hardship his trainees endure to pay for board examinations.

He has helped establish a spousal alliance for the Northeast Mississippi Medical Association.

He regularly volunteers his time to instruct in ACLS and PALS for physicians and others in our region.

He volunteers his time to help those without medical coverage at the Antone Tannehill Good Samaritan Free Clinic.

He has successfully petitioned the Tupelo city council for a city wide smoking ban, a hard-fought, major accomplishment for this area.

Candidate's statement of interest

I am passionate about medicine, as well as service to all mankind. I feel it is my duty to give back to my community and to others and to serve in the best way possible. I feel I am uniquely qualified to serve in this area because of my contact and experience with residents, students and faculty alike. As an undergraduate student I learned how to lead and follow in a service capacity. As a medical student I worked hard to support myself and my family. As a resident I was asked to lead and did so as a new father. As a faculty member I try hard to give the best education to my residents so that they are prepared to go out and practice medicine. I have seen first hand the difference that the AMA and its affiliated organizations can make. I feel that the young physicians section of the AMA is committed to the future of medicine and is a great opportunity to give back to the family of medicine. I would be honored to act as the representative for all young physicians.
