Sponsor's narrative statement
Dr. Reilly has provided the American Medical Association a dynamic and effective national leadership presence for 14 years, beginning with his first meeting as a Medical Student Section Alternate Delegate for Albert Einstein College of Medicine, at the 1994 Interim meeting. He has held numerous local, state, and national leadership positions, culminating as a member of the AMA Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2005. Following completion of his term, he has served the Young Physicians Section as the American College of Radiology Delegate, and now serves as the Alternate Delegate to the House of Delegates from the American Society of Neuroradiology. Throughout his service to the AMA he has specialized in Structure and Governance, with a subspecialty in Parliamentary Procedures. He has served two Sections as Parliamentarian, was appointed the Constitution and Bylaws Council (CC&B) representative on the Committee on Organization of Organizations, and participated in the deliberations regarding the Bylaws change to transition from Davis’ Rules of Order to The Standard Code of Parliamentary Procedure (Sturgis). Since joining the Section Council on Radiology in 2000, Dr. Reilly has proven invaluable in navigating business items through the Rules and Credentials Committee, and a masterful tactician in the employment of Parliamentary Procedures, providing sage advice to the leadership of the Section Council. He has demonstrated an inherent understanding of how Parliamentary Procedure is put into practice in the American Medical Association. It is with great enthusiasm that we nominate Dr. Kevin Reilly to be the first Speaker of the AMA-YPS.
Candidate's statement of interest
With our upcoming election, the YPS will separate the role of Speaker from the role of the Chair. As New York (MSSNY) MSS Chair for one year, Hawaii (HMA) RFS Chair for five years, and one year each as HMA’s Membership Task Force Co-Chair and Commissioner for Peer Review, and for Programs, I have had the honor of serving in the role of Speaker within organized medicine for nine years. In my State Chair roles for MSSNY-MSS and HMA-RFS, and serving on several delegations to the AMA-HOD, I have utilized Parliamentary Procedures to succeed in passing resolutions on behalf of constituents, regardless of my own opinions. As parliamentarian for the AMA-YPS, AMA-MSS, and when requested by the AMA-RFS Chair, I have furthered the considerations of Assembly veterans and novices alike. As your AMA-YPS Speaker, I pledge to facilitate our deliberations with impartiality and alacrity, yet flexibility insuring those new to our Assembly the opportunity to be heard.
Your Speaker will still wear two hats. With 8 years AMA and State Section organization Governing Council experience, 6 years on the AMA Constitution and Bylaws Council, and 2 years on your AMA Board of Trustees, I believe I am well-equipped to represent your interests in our YPS-GC, and also uniquely qualified to help our Delegates project the will of our Section in the House of Delegates. On our YPS-GC, my voice will be your voice. My vote will be your vote. I respectfully ask for your vote to serve you as Speaker.
