How can I earn the AMA PRA?

  1. Documentation of appropriate credits earned in the time span for which you are applying.

    Standard Certificate PRA with Commendation

    3 270 credits within 3 years
    (at least 180 must be
    AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™)
    2 100 credits within 2 years
    (at least 40 must be
    AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™)
    2 180 credits within 2 years
    (at least 60 must be
    AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™)
    1 50 credits within 1 year
    (at least 20 must be
    AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™)
    1 90 credits within 1 year
    (at least 40 must be
    AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™)

     

  2. Recertification with specialty boards
    Physicians who have met the certification or recertification requirements of an ABMS member specialty board may apply to receive a three-year standard AMA PRA certificate.

  3. Reciprocity with specialty societies
    An AMA PRA certificate can be provided to any physician who has met the CME requirements of the following medical societies. A letter from the medical society is required for documentation.

    • American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)
    • American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP)
    • American Psychiatric Association (APA)
    • American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS)
    • American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)
    • American Urological Association (AUA)
    • California Medical Association (CMA)
    • Medical Society of New Jersey (NJMS)
    • American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
    • Pennsylvania Medical Society
