J. Renee Chapman Navarro, MD

At-Large Representative
San Francisco, California
Specialty: Anesthesiology

I would like to participate in the MAC because I am commited to creating a health care workforce that is reflective of the patients served, and educating physicians on issues of culture and health care. At UCSF, I have experience working across the spectrum of health care provider training. I serve as an Advisory College mentor, working to facilitate outreach efforts and creating a climate that eliminates barriers to success. Appointed in 2004, I serve as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, charged with expanding faculty development, supporting all segments of our faculty, and assisting in fellow to faculty transitions. I was charged by the Dean to create a Blueprint for Diversity in 2004. In 2007 I was selected as the Director of Academic Diversity for the UCSF Health Science Campus. In this capacity I have the responsibility of creating, supporting and campus- wide coordinating of diversity initiatives. I have worked with organized medicine, serving as the District Director for the California Society of Anesthesiologists. As Chief of Staff at San Francisco General Hospital, I worked with the Department of Public Health and the San Francisco Medical Society. I currently serve on a city-wide African American Health Disparities Initiative, a collaborative effort of San Francisco Hospitals to decrease health disparities within the city. The work of the MAC council complements my passion and experience. I am eager to work on these important issues on a national level.
