Jolie C. Holschen, MD

Young Physicians Section Representative
Ann Arbor, Michigan
Specialty: Emergency Medicine and Sports Medicine

The Women Physicians Congress is moving forward in new directions that will make us stronger in the House of Medicine. Over the past two years that I have been involved on the Governing Council, the WPC has made a transition from the Summit to a successful educational program at Annual 2007, reinstituted the liaison program highlighted by the breakfast held at Annual 2007, developed a mentoring award with an outstanding reception to recognize these individuals held in Honolulu, and has awarded the first two cycles of the Giambalvo award providing money for research on women's professional issues.

Though the WPC has these successful programs, I think that we can do more. In my role as an academic faculty member in two male-dominated fields and as researcher on gender differences in risk of sustaining injury, gender disparities related to patient care, rsearch, and the professional work place are unfortunately commonplace and pervasive. I am running for re-election as the YPS representative on the WPC-GC so that I can continue to contribute to the cause of my female colleagues and our female patients.

If elected, I will serve my peers with integrity and hope to create an impact on gender disparities through my participation on the WPC Governing Council. I am proud to be a member of the AMA serving as an advocate for both my profession and my patients. I'm proud that - together - we will be able to make a difference in patient's lives and in health care.
