Lisa Markleys musical talents are a mixture of folk and jazz. Her new solo album, The Sky is Blue and Sometimes Cries, features some original songs along with compositions by North Texas songwriters, whom Lisa hopes to introduce to new audiences.
Lisa is a former member of the band Akoustik Nerve and still actively tours with the eclectic folk trio, The Malvinas. She also performs locally with her trio (American Songbook) and tours with guitarist and songwriter, Bruce Balmer. A graduate of the University of North Texas with a degree in Music Composition, Lisa has won and placed in several songwriting compositions. She has also appeared in several major festivals and venues throughout the US and Canada.
Lisa is talented beyond vocals and guitar, which are featured on her most recent CD, she also plays the piano, trombone and banjo. She lists Sarah Vaughan and Joni Mitchell as musical influences. Some of her awards to date include regional singer/songwriter at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 2001, 2004 and 2006, and Wildflower Festival Performing Songwriter Semi-Finalist in 2003.
