About the Task Force

The MSS Communications Task Force (CTF) was established in August 2007 to disseminate information about the AMA-MSS to chapters, states and regions. The CTF is principally concerned with keeping individual chapters up-to-date with the latest information regarding:

  • Interim and Annual AMA Meeting programming
  • MSS standing committee activities and grassroots efforts
  • Regional updates and one monthly Region “Showcase”
  • Empower grassroots chapter activities with the many resources available to them through the AMA, particularly through the Web
  • Work with committees to refine their website, information dissemination, and communications
  • Policy advocacy in Washington, D.C., state and regional events, and the MSS Agenda

Communications Task Force Vision
CTF strives to empower students with actionable information so they can serve as patient advocates and distinguished medical leader in the chosen specialty at the local, state, regional, national levels.

Communications Task Force 2007-2008 Goals

  1. Foster awareness of local, state, regional, national MSS and AMA initiatives and the greatest challenges facing medicine today with the "State of the MSS" presentations.
  2. Empower students with actionable information so they can make vital contributions at the local, state, regional, national levels.
  3. Offer a broad, yet concise view of MSS and AMA activities so students can easily stay informed, involved, and an integral part of AMA's solutions.
  4. Equip students with the knowledge and resources they need to serve as advocates and medical leader in the chosen specialty.
  5. Share best practices of initiatives at the local, state, regional, and national levels.
  6. Stimulate an interest in the politics of Medicine and offers an integrated path they can build upon in the AMA as a medical student, resident, fellow, and young physician.
  7. Establish a database of “best practices” that include successful projects and ideas that have been implemented by chapters across the country.
  8. Expand accessibility to the Interim and Annual conferences with audiovisual feeds and an archive of sessions available on the Internet.  Pilot test for Interim 2007, hopefully fully operational Annual 2008.

Resources

State of the MSS Presentations
In order to foster awareness of local, state, regional, national MSS and AMA initiatives, CTF has developed monthly State of the MSS Presentations.  These presentations are comprehensive, but chapter officers can customize presentations for meetings, and members can use these general awareness and resource links.

MSS “Best Practices”
CTF is working to develop a repository of highly successful initiatives and projects undertaken by MSS chapters across the country. Logistical details and general recommendations provided here will empower other chapters to adapt these ideas into projects that promote the MSS Agenda.  Submit your “Best Practices.”
