AMA Voice for the Uninsured Campaign - a Role for Senior physicians

e-mail story | print story

The AMA is launching a three-year campaign to promote coverage for the uninsured and increase access to care.

The first phase targets the pre-primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. If you are not in those states, there are a few ways to get involved including: 1) Show your support by signing the campaign's petition at www.VoiceForTheUninsured.org on the Web; and 2) Pass out the "Voice for the Uninsured" pocket card (inside this September issue of AMA Voice) at meetings, events and various other places as an informational piece for the campaign.  Please contact erin.abbey@ama-assn.org if you have not received the pocket cards or if you would like to receive additional cards.

Watch for full-page ads in major national publications, including Time, Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report.  Starting in 2008, the second phase of the campaign will focus on influencing voters to cast their ballots for president with the issue of the uninsured in mind.  You can do your part by sharing the principles of the AMA plan - and encouraging colleagues, family and friends to learn about each presidential candidate's plans for health care reform before heading to the voting booth in February.
