Who makes decisions about your health insurance coverage? You deserve to know.
This brochure was created to help patients understand how decisions about health insurance coverage are made, including the role of practitioners, employers and health insurers. It answers some common questions about:
-
How health insurance coverage works
-
Who to talk to when you have questions or concerns about your health insurance coverage
- What you can do if your insurance does not cover something you or your family might need
The information provided in the brochure is based on a national consensus report that was released by the Ethical Force Program in February 2004, “Ensuring Fairness in Health Care Coverage Decisions: A Consensus Report on the Ethical Design and Administration of Health Care Benefits Packages.”
For more information about what type of health plan might be the best for you see “Choosing and Using a Health Plan,” provided by the United States Agency for Health Care Research and Quality.
