Goal: To identify, develop, and disseminate best practices in health care for the geriatric population
Objectives: The Aging and Community Health program accomplishes its goals through the following:
Education
- that supports a comprehensive approach to care of the geriatric patient
- that supports the physician's role in the care of the geriatric patient
- that improves physician, patient, and caregiver communication
- that provides technical assistance, materials, and curricula for training physicians to be able to train others in the identified best practices
Applied Research
- identifying current trends and implications for policy and practice
- anticipating future needs of the aging population
Collaborations
- facilitate implementation of best practices
- communication/dissemination of best practice information
- network within the Federation of state and specialty medical societies and with external health care organizations
Resources
- provide technical assistance to physicians, other areas of the AMA, external health care organizations and the public
