UEMS/EACCME CME credit recognition
The American Medical Association (AMA) has an agreement of mutual recognition of continuing medical education (CME) credit with the European Union of Medical Specialties (UEMS). Under the terms of this agreement, the AMA will convert CME credit certified by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), the accrediting arm of the UEMS, to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians (MDs, DOs or equivalent international degree) may have their EACCME credit converted to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ by applying to the AMA.
A complete list of activities for which credit may be converted can be found at the European Union Web site. (This link will take you off the AMA Web site. The AMA is not responsible for the content of other Web sites).

More about UEMS/EACCME
The UEMS established the EACCME in 1999, and it began operation in January 2000. It connects the existing and emerging national programs on CME accreditation and acts as a clearinghouse for certification of CME credits in Europe. It does not provide accreditation of the CME activities directly. As such, it does not supersede the national authority on accreditation of CME, nor does it create another layer of bureaucracy. The EACCME reviews, approves and catalogues CME activities meeting the agreed quality criteria and approval by the appropriate authorities, including those at a professional level and the national CME authority of the country where the activity takes place. This system of accreditation and its designation number of CME credits are recognized by all the national authorities of the countries of the European Union. Individual physicians are awarded the designation number of European credits. Other European organizations working with the EACCME include the European Boards and many other European professional institutions, such as the Federation of European Cancer Societies and the European Federation of Neurological Sciences.
